AMC is a clinical setup and houses state of the art hemodialysis facility and OPG facility (dental X ray). BRL and AMC provide an ideal situation where RND into medical instrumentation takes place BRL is responsible for development of new ideas and concepts in medical products and instrumentation. These concepts are developed by active participation of clinical setup of Aamina Medical Complex and Reseach Center for renal diseases. The ideas concieved at BRL are formalised and commercialised with active participation of AMC. Dr Naqeeb Khalid developed Naqeeb's Annuloplasty ring in 1998 for mitral and tricuspid valve repair. So far over 100 successful implants have been conducted in Lahore's different hospitals. Majority of these implants have been conducted by Prof. Dr. Col (R) M. A. Cheema, Ex-Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore and now project director of the under construction Multan Cardiac Center. This is a soft ring and has many advanages over the conventional metalic and rigid Carpentier ring. This patented technology is covered under USA Patent No US05776189 (link to USA paptent site). It is easier to implant and does not restricts base of the heart in its contribution towards cardiac function. Besides Naqeeb's Annuloplastyu ring, reseach and development into medical equipment and instrumentation was initiated in 1989 with the technical colaboration of Gage Applied Sciences, Montreal, Canada. In 2000, Gage Applied Sciences was taken over by Tektronics and hence the ventured suffered setback. BRL's products are aimed at domestic market and third world countries. International certifications are being applied for. recentyly, RND for Laser hair removal and Skin treatment has been started. A small portable low intensity unit has been developed and prototyped. Work is progressing very rapidly on this product.
